Stimulus
The House and Senate completed work on an Economic Stimulus package which will result in significant new funding in education and early childhood care and family assistance in the days, weeks, and months ahead. The measure, which President Obama had pressed for completing before Congress' Presidents' Day Recess, was the product of round-the-clock negotiations between the White House, House, and Senate (where three moderate Republican Senators -- Specter (PA), Collins (ME) and Snowe (ME) -- held the key to the magic 60 votes needed to cut off debate move the matter forward.
