| Yamira Acevedo earned a B.A. in "Science, Planning and Law for the Understanding of Environmental Problems" from the University of Puerto Rico, followed by a Juris Doctor from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, School of Law. For seven years, she was directly involved in several capacities, with the Legislative Assembly for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, directing three important Special Committees: Mental Health Law; Organs and Tissues Donation and Transplants Law; and Optometrist Profession Law; all which were integrated by members of the Legislative Assembly, officials of diverse government agencies and renowned professionals of the concerned and associates fields. Through the years she gained a hands-on experience in all matters related to public policy making, as well as legislative and parliamentary procedures. While such positions require a direct and strong involvement in the public policy making arena, Yamira maintained a nonpartisan approach towards the legislative process, this gain her great respect in and out of the Puerto Rico's legislature. As an attorney, notary and lobbyist, she has represented and assisted various profit and non-profit groups within the legislative field in several states and the US Congress. She has also taught both undergraduate and graduate programs, offering courses on Legal Research, Legislative Procedure and Lobbying Techniques. Most recently, she served Congressman Luis Fortuño (P.R.-At Large) as Legislative Advisor and Liaison with the Education and Workforce Committee and related entities and agencies. |
